Birches Elementary School in Turnersville, New Jersey rolled out the red carpet for Kindness Week 2018. Much to his delight, Rainbow Rabbit was invited back to be part of the festivities!
This year’s event had some welcome additions, as local law enforcement officers, firemen and EMS members were invited to participate in the “Heroes” event. As the buses arrived with students, they were greeted by Washington Township’s finest. Many of them held Rainbow Rabbits as they offered high fives to the students, who entered the school underneath an arch of rainbow colored balloons.
After getting settled, students stood outside the classroom hallways and greeted the first responders as they walked around the school. Unexpectedly, one student even offered a police officer a random hug right on the spot! Shortly after the presentation ended, several fifth graders at Birches presented the guests with hand made signs and cards thanking them for their service in the community.

By the time the guests had left the school, Kindness Week 2018 was off to a fantastic start. In addition to Heroes Day, Teamwork Tuesday, Roundup Wednesday, and Be Kind and Unwind Day are just some of the names of the upcoming theme days.
Much like last year’s festivities, Rainbow Rabbit felt right at home. Student Assistance Counselor Mike Petticrew and Principal Jessica Rose have done a tremendous job unifying the students at Birches. The two are largely responsible for implementing Rainbow Rabbit’s program perfectly. Furthermore, the behavior of their students is exemplary. Future schools participating in the program have a tough act to follow!
