It’s one thing to take shots at Donald Trump. It’s another to poke fun at Barron Trump.
Barron, the youngest child of the 45th President of the United States and his wife, Melania, was targeted online by Saturday Night Live writer Katie Rich and others this past weekend.
“Barron will be this country’s first homeschool shooter,” tweeted Price.
Even though the tweet has since been deleted, many came to the defense of the 10-year old. It was recently announced that Price has been suspended indefinitely.
Rich is not the only person making Barron Trump the subject of their social media account. Modern Family actress Julie Bowen used several Instagram posts in regards to her perception of his demeanor on inauguration day.
“I think Barron is on his Gameboy. Can’t say I blame him,” posted Bowen, who captioned some of her posts with the hashtag #barronforpresident.
While that seems harmless enough, Bowen didn’t stop there, and continued posting pictures of Barron—including one where he was seen holding his head in both hands. “Barron, a voting majority shares your horror,” Bowen wrote. She then shared a picture of Barron rubbing his right eye, writing, “When your dad is boppin’ his head to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. #dadshame.” While some lauded Bowen for her comments, the majority of people were not amused. Bowen, who most likely saw the hundreds of unfavorable responses, didn’t backtrack, but tweeted “I love that Barron is a kid being a kid. My kids would be a horror show at a public event! Just trying to keep it light.”
Shortly after Donald Trump won the election last November, Rosie O’Donnell, who has repeatedly feuded with Trump over the years, went as far as to speculate that Barron Trump was autistic. The backlash was so severe that O’Donnell issued an apology to Melania Trump.
It’s one thing to dislike an adult for whatever reasons people deem necessary. However, the unhappiness shown among many in the general public and Hollywood elite since the election last November shows that no expense is spared in regards to voicing their displeasure—not even that of a child. Saturday Night Live has spent their entire season satirizing Donald Trump, which is fair game, until you go after his son. Meanwhile, Bowen’s posts weren’t even thinly veiled shots at Donald Trump—she used his son as a platform to once again voice her disapproval with his father’s nomination.
Let’s hope that Barron Trump can go back to school (his regular school, and not the homeschool Price claimed he attends) and live a normal life the best way a 10-year old in his position can—without being singled out by his classmates.
To end things on a lighter note, it was great to see Barron playing peek-a-boo with his nephew as his father was signing orders.
